Awards for year of 2005:
Grand Prix of the Festival FESTIVAL GRAND PRIX winner is "SPEER & HITLER – THE DEVIL'S ARCHITECT", produced by Bavaria Film, Germany. Documentary testimonies and archive material are inventively entangled in the plot structure; Nuremberg Trials are reconstructed by excellent photography and impressive light, in order to reconsider the issue of the guilt and responsibility. Can they be individualized? How past should be dealt with? Should everything be forgotten? These are only some of the questions of this complex TV drama.
RAI, Italy is awarded with PRODUCTION AWARD FOR THE BEST SELECTION IN THE FESTIVAL, for quality programmes in all three categories of the Festival, and this is confirmed by the awards in those categories. All the entered programmes are of the highest film, television and production standards, which is expected from the production such as RAI. Special Award Tanja Šuković's film "Saints And Criminals", produced by TV Montenegro, is awarded with a SPECIAL AWARD, because it confronts us with the problem of ethics and religion which is present in a great degree and which goes beyond the local frame. Golden Olive "Srebrenica Memories", produced by DVS – Infokus Balkans, Serbia is awarded with the GOLD OLIVE CERTIFICATE in the category of documentary, for the deep inview into the causes and consequences of war in Yugoslavia, and their influence on human soul. The film presents in a subtle way, the tragedy in Srebrenica with which the country yet has to face with.
"Tales Of Life – Women In Waiting" is awarded with SILVER OLIVE CERTIFICATE in the category of documentary, produced by RAI-TRE, Italy. The tragic destinies in women's prison in Venice are presented in a subtle way, well balanced and with a remarkable directing. Collectivity of the life in prison, presented through individual characters, the diversity of occasional going out from the prison and the idea of the similarity of their faiths behind bars. Baroque costume play within the prison visually multiples the illusion of their lives.
"Netko" is awarded with BRONZE OLIVE CERTIFICATE in the category of documentary programme, directed by Husein Bata Dukaj and produced by TV Montenegro for powerful imagination and creating an appealing directing style, sound and camera motion.
Jasna Hribernik is awarded for directing of the film "A Concert For Mobile Phones And An Orchestra", Janez Pirc and TV Slovenia co-production. The director used mixed styles of reportage and TV film in the directing procedure and made it a modern and aesthetic documentary with special urban sensibility for mise-en-scene and rhythm of image and sound.
Hassan Naghashi is awarded for the screenplay in the programme "MASHI AND MASHIANEH", produced by IRIB, Iranian Television, Channel 1, Iran. There is a poetic and artistic atmosphere in order to remind us of the old story about the creation of Mashi and Mashianeh through personification of the main characters – city of Yazd door-knockers.
Veselin Balandžić is awarded for photography in the documentary "NETKO", produced by TV Montenegro. Black and white gamma photographs, changing of the night and day atmosphere, filming in motion, close-ups and strange filming angles emphasizing psychological state of the character, create the poetry of the film which is dealing with the escape and lost identity. Nonverbal message is clear: One cannot jump out of one's skin.
The award for the best director in the category of ecology goes to Gabriel Geamanu for the film "The flood" produced by Romanian Television. Gaemanu managed to give human dimension to the large scale environmental problem with the use of film language. The award for photography The award for the best photography in the category of ecology goes to Petar Vujanić, for the film "The life and the juncture" produced by RT Serbia. With his camera, he tells the story using pure composition and convincing details. Golden Olive In the category of ecology the Golden Olive goes to the film "Toxic ships" produced by RAI Educational Galata and directed by Vincenzo Pergolizzi. The director of this film revealed to the audience the international problem of dismantling toxic ships that was unknown up to now. Toxic ships coming from developed European countries are being destroyed on the coast of Turkish Aegean Sea where Pergolizzi managed to discover details of this "foul" business with the use of hidden camera. The film has clear structure and well elaborated script based on thorough research.
Gernot Roll is awarded for PHOTOGRAPHY in the drama "Speer & Hitler – The Devil's Architect", produced by Bavaria Film, Germany. Skillfully changing of focus, choosing the filming angles and dramatic light create the atmosphere in which court trial is subtly reconstructed. The feeling of claustrophobia is achieved by voyeuristic approach of camera which increases suggesstiveness of the film. Heinrich Breloer is awarded for DIRECTING of the drama "Speer & Hitler – The Devil's Architect", produced by Bavaria Film, Germany for imaginative and efficious combining of documentary and drama sequences, which maintain the suspense in the film. Thus he also extended the boundaries of the genre. Lotta Lattstrom is awarded for the SCREENPLAY in the film "Strike Back", produced by Eiffel Mattson, Sweden. The story of the teenage girl Madde is perfectly ballanced in an unusual and suprising way. Although the scrpit writer Lotta Lattstrom could have been tempted to make a trendy story about a step-father mollesting his daughter, she managed to show the main characters in multiple lighting, from more sides and managed to reveal a perfect study of a teenage girl. Patrik Johansson is awarded for THE BEST ACTOR in the film "King Konrad", because he managed to convey a special performance of a mentally retarded man who keeps his longings and dreams with him. He shows a human face of a psychically ill man with elegance and even humour. King Konrad is a short film which is composed of a whole set of appealing motives as is usual for a long feature film. Tuba Buyukustun is awarded for THE BEST ACTRESS in the film "Gulizar", produced by Bahadir Atay, Turky. She is photogenic and spontaneous and with minimum device, mime and a few words, she managed to conjure up the beauty and also tragedy of the main character. "Packing Monkeys, Again!", produced by TV Montenegro is awarded with BRONZE OLIVE CERTIFICATE, for charming picturing the life of the generation of people who due to TV soap operas and packing suitcases have no time for themselves. "Hidden Children", by RAI UNO and RED FILM coproduction, Italy, is awarded with SILVER OLIVE CERTIFICATE, for its strong structure to create a dramatic aspect. It is based on true story with firm anti-fascism. The artistic value of the film is in using an attractive film language and special focus on the theme – directing – acting – camera and mise-en-scene as a TV drama.
